Christmas 08

Merry Christmas! This was a very fun Christmas Day with a beautiful 70 Degrees and sunny. Stuart went golfing and I started cooking at 9am. For apps we have danish meatballs, pickles wrapped in cream cheese and ham, sausage rolls, and lots of chocolate treats. Dinner was roast beef, roasted tomatoes, creamed spinach, roast onions, rolls, mash potatoes and gravy.

We had a near scare with the Roast Beef. Stuart was carving it, doing a great job, when all of a sudden with edge of the table got to close and off went the beef. Luckily, it all landed on the dinning room chair on the platter with just the juices going everywhere. Shew!

Our guests brought over desserts of cheese cake(my favorite), apple crumble and chocolate muffins all with fresh whipped cream. We were very full by the end of the day.

As you can tell by all the food we ate it was a lot of eat and rest, eat and rest, eat and play games. I made a Pass the Parcel game which was a lot of fun. If anyone doesn't know Pass the Parcel it is a present wrapped in many layers and each layer has a question, candy, or activity. The winner is the one who opens the last layer to get the present. Tim unwrapped the activity to sing his favorite Christmas Carol. Watch how it went:

Stuart bought me a interactive sports pack video game. It is like the Wii sports games. Each of us had a go at bowling. The last game was the party poppers. Each one had a little gift, a crown and a joke.

By the end of the night we were all getting a bit silly.

Thank you to everyone who sent us cards and gifts. It was a memorable Christmas and wish we can all be together next year!

Toys for Tots

The Holiday season has definitely started. We had two holiday parties over the weekend and two more this week. We are also getting ready for the Christmas dinner Stuart and I are putting together for our friends. It is so much fun, and as you all know, a bit tiring.

Saturday we went to a Toys for Tots party. We brought a remote control dinosaur(which he was reluctant to give up), a carebear and tinkerbell doll. I was told by the preschoolers at the Rec. Center that Tinkerbell is WAY COOL! The party gathered two truck loads of toys!
We enjoyed the spirt of giving and had a great time at the party. We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and hope your holiday season is filled with joy and laughter.

Happy Thanksgiving

Our Thanksgiving started at 5am with both of us having to get up to go to work. The Recreation Association Annually Turkey Trot Race went off with out a hitch. There is a first year for everything :)

We had 1200 people this year running Thanksgiving morning.

We packed up, cleaned and I was on my way home by 11am. I cleaned the house and started prepping for the Thanksgiving meal. 7 of our friends came over to feast on turkey with home made gravy, twice baked mash potatoes, caramelized onion stuffing, rolls and green been casserole. Pumpkin and apple pie for dessert. Yummy!

After dinner we watched football and some took naps but everyone had an all around good time. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Maybe next year we can all be together.

AFL Grand Final

Well the AFL (Australian Rules Football) Final was on Saturday, September 27, 2008. We had a couple of friends over and watched the Hawthorn Hawks beat the Geelong Cats. Which was a very good thing for our house is a Hawks house. For anyone who has never seen an AFL game, which is very exciting, I have found the highlights of the game on youtube.

Golf Tournament 08

Saturday, August 16 the Rec. had it's annual golf tournament held on Daufuskie Island. I had to work it and Stuart got to play. Is that fair? We went over on the Friday night and left after the tournament. Daufuskie is a beautiful place were people mostly use golf carts to get around. Stuart's team didn't win but they were close to the winning score. All in all it was a fun weekend!

Fouth of July 2008

Happy 4th of July to all! We spent a wonderful afternoon at our friends BBQ. We played card games, volleyball, and watched fireworks. Not to mention all the awesome food we ate: ribs, turkey, baked mac & cheese, rice & beans, all sorts of salads, chicken wings, and to top it off a lowcounty boil. There were desserts also but I just didn't get to them.
They went in the morning to catch this crab for the lowcountry boil! The fireworks show was fun, though some didn't quite go where they were suppose to.

Hope you had as great a day as we did!

the simple things

It's the simple things in life that make you smile. I saw these ducks when I was walking home from work. I hope they brighten your day like they did mine.

2 Years

Stuart and I had our 2 year anniversary and decided to take a trip down to Tampa, Florida for the weekend. It is about a 5 hour trip from Hilton Head. We were very excited about getting their and 60 mile out traffic slows on the 3 lane highway. We moved 20 miles in 2 hours and then we stop. Everyone on the road was very friendly. Stuart and I kept are calm. Yes their was no kicking, spiting, or yelling. By the time we got moving again we were starving and pulled of to eat and once we got to the hotel we definitely needed a stiff drink.

Saturday we went to Busch Gardens. The roller coasters were awesome and it was just an all around fun day. It was also great because they had beer stations around every corner. For anyone who doesn't know Anheuser & Co. make Budweiser beer products and owns the amusement park. Which was very good for Stuart and myself. The park is also a safari stlye zoo. The train ride takes you though a lot of the natural habits while animals run free. Very beautiful. The park also had tigers, gorillas and so on. The shows were not really are cup of tea. The end of the day we were exhausted. That night we just stayed in our hotel room, ordered pizza, and watched the Indian Jones movies. We left on Sunday and had no troubles getting back.

Spring is Definitly Here

Spring is here and going by to quickly. Gilly the Gator is back! Everyday he is out sunning himself in our backyard. I would get closer but I am a chicken

Spring is the big time for special events for the Island Recreation Association, where I work. Wingfest is the start where 17 different local Hilton Head restaurants cook up their best chicken wings. It is a fun but very long day. Then came Heritage where Stuart worked many hours to make the course look the best it has ever been. Of course the other guys helped too. I worked our food booth on hole 15 of Harbour Town. If you didn't know the Heritage lets non-profits run the food booths on the course and all the profits go to that charity. The next weekend we held the Hilton Head Seafood Fest. It was the first year and went great! We had 13 different restaurants and an Iron Chef competition.

By this time our house looks like a mess, we have no food, and a pile of laundry you would not believe. Though, we still make time for a little fun. Stuart's friend Old buddy Ben set up a slow pitch softball game. Stuart's team had many strong athletic men who did not have a clue to the rules of softball. The opposing team were young boys who live, breath, and eat baseball. It was a very fun game to watch. I was the official score keeper. The other team won 17-10 but Stuart's team sure held their own. All in all it has been a good spring and we are looking forward to the summer!

It's beena long time

Well life is the same in the Calvert house. We are happy and also busy. A lot has happened since New Years.

First, we celebrated Australia Day by traveling to Jacksonville, Florida to watch the Rabbitohs play some England team in the rugby. 30 of us boarded a bus early in the morning with drinks flowing, of course, to get there. When we got there it was rainy and cloud covered but it didn't

stop us from having a good time. Though, I smartly left my camera on the bus. I am stilling waiting to get the pictures from the friends who had cameras. But we were under a tent, got free catering from Outback Steak House, and all the free beer we could drink. So, how could we complain. I didn't really understand the game itself but it was fun to watch. England won. After the game we boarded the bus and went to the rugby after party. The teams after showering and changing came to celebrate. All in all, it was a awesome trip to be repeated next year!

Not much happened in February. We had a lovely Valentine's Day where we spend way to much for not enough food at some fancy restaurant. Love was in the air!

My parents came the first week in March. It was really good to see them again. We played a lot of cards and caught up on each others lives. We went shopping and they got to relax. They stayed at a villa in Shipyard plantation where we Barbecued and hung out. We also went out enjoying the Jazz Conner, Marley's Island Bar and grill, and the British Open Pub. Can't wait to see you again and we miss you.

Next came St. Patricks Day! Which is a hugh celebration held the Sunday before St. Pat's Day on the Island. Also, an event I forgot my camera. I must get better at that. We hung out at Wing's all day enjoying the bands and watching the parade go by. The coolest part is when the Air force Jets flew, it felt like, right over our heads. Stuart and I were good and got home by 8:30pm to get a good night rest for going back to work on Monday.

The next big thing is Haritage golf. I will have pictures of and promise to blog ASAP!

New Year

Happy New Year!

Stuart and I went to the Condame family house to bring in the New Year. We played Pictionary, which everyone at first grumbled about, then one by one they all joined in the fun. I should have taken a photo of all the food. Lol....and of course I had to have it all. They also had a fireplace going in the backyard that made it cozy to sit outside. Hope everyone had a great New Year.
